Ok, let’s be honest, we all have a recruiter in our LinkedIn inbox right now. I bet a lot of you have a similar thought process: “How dare they try to push a new role on me and sell me something I don’t want. I am happy and content where I am… or am I? Even if I’m not happy, how can this random recruiter help me?”
Trust me, we’ve all been there, but what I’d like to do is provide a different perspective on the value a good recruiter can bring. Sure, we all have encountered a recruiter who’s simply trying to get their client’s job filled and move on. At Alliance, our approach is different. Our recruiters are in it for the long haul and it’s not just a job to them. They are on your side, as the job seeker, and want to see you succeed. They are regular people, just like you, who are trained to be a career resource and advocate for you to their clients. For example, one of our recruiters received the message below from an old candidate who reached out for advice on her resume and current situation:
“I know how easy it is to get in the daily grind and not realize the significance of your work, but I want you to know that you have changed my life. When I first met you I was shocked to find someone who cared more about finding the right next step for me than getting a position staffed, getting paid, and moving on. Then, after several years I reached out for advice and the results are great! After you told me your opinion on my current situation, I told my company that I needed more of a challenge, a new title, and more money. They came back with a new title plus more compensation. I can’t say enough about the positive impact you’ve had on my career and if there’s ever anything I can do for you please let me know!”
Who would have thought one connection would make such a huge impact on the trajectory of someone’s career? Moral of the story, connect with that recruiter, listen to their advice because they’re tapped into the job market and genuinely want to help you.
